Proteus Radar Target Simulator

This document describes how to implement a Radar Target Simulator/Generator using the Tabor Electronics’ Proteus AWT (Arbitrary Waveform Transceiver). The Proteus AWT RTS system is a configuration of the Proteus AWT that is design to receives a signal from the Radar under test and performs real time calculations in its internal FPGA to simulate a moving target.

This energy is amplified and transmitted and ultimately is reflected off a target, received and the difference in time and frequency of the transmit signal verses the received signal is used to determine the distance and velocity of a target.

Radar Signal Simulation using an AWG

RADAR (“Radio Detection And Ranging”) is a system that uses electromagnetic waves to identify the range, altitude, direction, or speed of both moving and fixed objects such as aircraft, ships, motor vehicles, weather formations, and terrain. Radar systems use transmitters that emit electromagnetic waves that are reflected by a target (“echoes”) and detected by a receiver.
