Presented by Mark Elo, CMO, Tabor Electronics

8am PT / 11am ET

Abstract:
In this webinar we discuss a direct to RF implementation of a Radar Target Generator (RTG). We will cover the direct digitization of the received signal using a high sample rate RF Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC), FPGA processing and the use of multiple coherent RF Digital to Analog Converters that are used to emulate the behavior of a Mono-pulse system. The system under discussion is built using Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) Components – utilizing the modular PXIe standard, Arbitrary Waveform Transceiver Test and Measurement Modules, PCIe interfaces and a desktop computer.

The webinar details both the transmitting and receiving blocks - from reception of the signal from the radar under test, to how it is digitized, demodulated, and stored as IQ pairs in the FPGA RAM memory. We will discuss how IQ samples are used within the FPGA to create a moving target simulation between the received echo pulse and the transmitter block. We will show how multiple coherent Digital to Analog Converters are employed to create a Mono-Pulse Simulation System, or even an array of amplitude and phase weighted transmission elements for an electronically steered array.
